The University of Phoenix has recently published their first children’s book called The Dragon Who Learned To Fly. This is an amazing book that teaches some great life lessons. Along with teaching life lessons to children this book also relates to many parents struggles.

My Life as the Mother Dragon

When I graduated from high school I decided to take a year off before taking on college. I wanted time to figure out what I really wanted. I have always had a passion for caring for children so after my year off I decided to enroll at a local community college to start my associates in early childhood education which I would do all online. This was a two year program that I signed up for and I wanted to do the best I could. During this time of getting my associates I was working a full time job along with two part time jobs so attending online college courses was a must for me. During my second year of online classes I found out I was pregnant. Part of me wanted to give up college to focus on being pregnant and preparing for my child, but at the same time I did not want to give up my dream. After she was born I was so over whelmed between parenting, working three jobs and taking online classes full time. Shortly after I gave up one job so I could focus more on my daughter. She was born in the fall, the following spring I graduated with my associates. I really thought about everything and knew I could not stop there. So I decided to enroll in an online university to continue my education.

Continuing education

If your a parent that has done college while working you know it can be quiet difficult. The struggle was real sometimes but I knew the end result would be amazing. I had two more years through the university before I graduated with my bachelors in early childhood education. My final year of college I became a stay at home mom full time while working a part time job on the weekends. This was the best thing I could of ever done. I graduated with my bachelors May of 2018 since then I have  started working from home while still working on the weekends. To me this is the best thing I could do for my daughter.

The Journey of Being "The Dragon Who Learned to Fly"

I have found with this book “The Dragon Who Learned To Fly” I can truly relate to the mother dragon. As a parent I feel that it is so easy to give up on your dreams to help your children. Where in reality it is still important to care for your self and achieve your dreams.

This book talks about how the mother dragon is so focused on providing for her family and caring for everyone and everything else besides herself. She never takes time out of her day for her. One day the dragon meets a bird that shows her that she does have time for herself. The bird eventually teaches the dragon to fly.

The lesson behind the book is that even with a crazy life it is possible and important to create time for your self. Never give up your dreams!

Even though this book relates to parents it is a great life lesson for children to learn. They need to know that they can do anything they put their mind to and to never give up!
