You can start your blog today by following these simple steps.

Okay so lets start from the beginning…

What should I blog about?

1. Finding your niche

The first thing you need to think about is what your blog is going to be about. This can be a difficult step for some.

Is there a topic that you are so passionate about that you talk to everyone about? What is something that you can not quit talking about?

While thinking about things your passionate about think about if it is a topic that could be profitable. Have others paid for help on the topic you’re so passionate about?

My passion has to do with early childhood. I have my bachelors in early childhood education and I have 10+ years working with children. When I created my blog I knew I wanted to do something with Parenting, teaching children and children activities. I have explored with different posts on making money from home, traveling and saving money but those are not my main focuses.

So when choosing your blog niche make sure you feel passionate enough about it where you will be able to talk about it for a long time and also make sure it is an area where people will spend money. Blogging for fun is nice but making an income with it is even better.

So to figure out your niche think of these three questions.

  1. What are you passionate about?
  2. Is there a need for my niche?
  3. Is this niche profitable?

2. Decide on your domain

Now that you have thought about your niche create a list of possible domain names. Your domain name will be your website. Think of something that goes along with your niche yet stands out so others remember you. You will want to think of a few just in case the name you want has already been used. I went through about 5 different names before I found one that was not used.

A few tips when thinking of a domain name…

  1. Think of something that is easy to spell and simple to remember
  2. It can be a fun name or direct to the point
  3. Think of something that relates to your niche

Don’t stress too much about coming up with a name for your blog your content is much more important than having the perfect name. I promise you even if you think you have the perfect name there will be days that you do not like it.

3. Choose a blogging platform

Now that we have a basic idea of what our blog is going to be about let’s start the technical part.

The web hosting I used is with blue host they have plans starting as low as $3.95/month

Go to Bluehost  and click Get started now.

This theme allows you to customize everything and has a lot to offer.  To start out if your on a budget a free one will work for you to get the hang of things. The deal with free themes is there are limitations and you can not customize them as much.
