Spring is the perfect time to learn about insects and the outdoors! Everything is blooming and insects are coming out. We have started to see many butteries and my daughter is so entertained by them! I thought it was a great time to do an activity on caterpillars! This building a caterpillar station activity was fun activity for my little one!. Not only did it go along with our butterfly study it was a great fine motor activity!
Materials
Green and red paper cut into strips about 1 inch wide
Green paper cut in the shape of a leaf
Building a Caterpillar Station
Start by cutting your red and green paper into strips about 1 inch wide. (i then cut the strips in have for them to be about 4 inches long) For each caterpillar you will need 1 red and 3 green.
Cut a leaf out of the green paper. You will want it about 6 inches long and 4 inches wide.
Once everything is cut and ready your little one is ready to build the caterpillar.
Have them place glue on one end then roll it into a 0 shape.
Place the red one for the head on the leaf and then the green ones will follow.
If you make a bigger leaf you can add more green pieces then just three.
This is a great fine motor activity because it is teaching your child how to control the glue and how to roll paper. perfect for your children in preschool and kindergarten! If your little one is younger they can still do it they may just need some assistance. After doing this activity I read the book A Butterfly’s Life to teach my daughter what caterpillars turned into!
