Halloween is around the corner so what a great time to do a Halloween sensory bin. Fill your day with bats, bones and creepy crawlers!
My daughter loves when I make sensory bins for her so I was excited to put this Halloween one together. This activity is very simple to make yet it will create hours of play.
Sensory bins are a great way to introduce children to new items, get their imagination going and build fine motor skills. I like to try to provide a new sensory activity weekly.
Materials
- Rice 5 lbs
- Orange food coloring
- Pumpkin bucket (Dollar Tree)
- Cauldron bucket (Dollar Tree)
- Small Halloween decorations like little critters and bones (Dollar Tree)
- Sensory tools
- Fine Motor Tools
Start with coloring the rice
I started this sensory bin with coloring my rice. I like to put my rice into a plastic bag, add couple drops of food coloring then shake the bag to get the food coloring everywhere. Once you are satisfied with the color of your rice lay the rice out so that it can dry. This prevents those little hands from becoming different colors! It is very simple and quick to color your rice. Read my post Colored Rice Sensory Bin for more on coloring rice.
Add your rice to a large container along with the tools and other materials and let your little one enjoy.
This is an activity that you can leave your child to play with or you can do some directed play with it. Ask your child to count how many spiders they can find or how many eyes there are. You can have them sort the different items, and so much more. Let their imagination roll you will be amazed with what your little one will come up with.
My daughter kept making orange eyeball soup!
She would come over to me smiling telling me she made soup when asked what kind she would answer either orange eyeball or bug soup (HAHA)
This may be a very simple activity but it will last for hours if not days. I normally keep my sensory bins out for a week at a time before I switch it to something new. This will more than likely be played with daily in my house.
