Family Fun in South Dakota
Do you want some Family fun in South Dakota? Traveling is always fun and full of new experiences. But when you have kids you need to make sure that they have fun too! Growing up my favorite place to travel to during the summer was South Dakota! Now that I am an adult with a kid of my own I took her to South Dakota. I think she enjoyed it as much as I did when I was younger.
What is there to do?
There are things to do for children of all ages. These include water parks, zoo’s and play areas. There is something to do for everyone!

Bear Country
Rapid City, SD. Go for a drive through an amazing wildlife park where you get to see bears, elk,wolves, and more. These animals roam free right out side of your car. Keep safe and keep those windows up Maybe if your lucky you will have a bear rub right up on your car! After the drive you park and get to get out and walk through the smaller animal exhibits. Here is where you will find the little baby bears. There are also arctic foxes, beavers and other small animals. Depending on the time of year you arrive you may have the chance to feed the baby bears.
Reptile Gardens
Rapid City, SD. This is that largest reptile zoo. It is the home to many different reptiles, birds and they even have a bionic garden. They do daily shows where they do demonstrations with the different animals while educating you about the animals. The bird show is great! Your little animal lover will love it here!
Black Hills Maze
Rapid City, SD. This is better for children that are a little bit older that understand mazes. This is a human size maze. They give you a card that you will stamp at different spots throughout the maze. To complete the maze get all the stamps on your card and find the end of the maze!
Evans Plunge Mineral Springs
Hot Springs, SD A large natural spring fed pool. They have an indoor and outdoor pools kids pool, waterside, a weight room, sauna and more. They also have water basket ball games and water volley ball games. Great way to spend a day in the water.
Mammoth Site
Hot Springs, SD When you arrive you will purchase tickets for the tour. Before the tour starts you will go into a movie that last about 15 minutes. This video will talk about the history of mammoths. once the video is done you will go into the museum. This museum is located over top of where they have found a bunch of different mammoth bones. Be ready to go on a guided tour of the pits where the bones have been found. after the tour take a walk around and see it for your self the then have another section of the museum to view the different animals that were around back when mammoths were.
1880 Train
Hill City, SD. This is an amazing train ride from Hill City to Keystone. You can get on at either location and ride a round trip. During the train ride the tell you the history of their steam train. This offers great family fun for the whole family!
Mount Rushmore
Keystone, SD Who would not want to go see the mountain with presidents carved into it. The offer guided trips up close along with having a museum that offers more history and a video to watch.
Wall Drug Store
Wall, SD. This is so much fun to go to. It is very historical but don’t let the history part scare you It is no where near boring. It is a mall of different shops. They have splash pads and more for the children to have fun with. Expect to spend a little while here as there is so much to see and experience.
Cosmos
Rapid City, SD Tucked away of the main road is a cabin. Within this cabin different things occur. You can stand on the wall, water runs up hill and a chair can balance on two legs. Welcome to a place were weird things are normal. They give you a tour with many different demonstrations where they use volunteers. Be ready for a mind-blowing experience.
Story Book Island
Rapid City, SD One of our favorite places to go with our toddler. We went there every night that we were in South Dakota. it is a large park that has swings, slides, jungle gyms and even a pond. What makes this park so special is the theme. There are different nursery rhyme and Disney characters all over.
Watiki Waterpark resort
Rapid City, SD. Welcome to the 30,000 square foot indoor water park! Fun for the whole family. Enjoy a nice time in the water where you don’t have to worry about what the weather is like. They also have a hotel on site so you can turn your water fun into a place to stay on your trip.
Old McDonald’s Farm
Rapid City, SD Your Little one will love it here! It is a glorified farm. Full of different farm like calf, goats, chicken pigs and more. You can ride a horse, feed a calf and feed goats. They also have pig races and other animals you can feed. This is priced very well for what you get.
Dinosaur Park
Rapid City, SD. A fun place to stop just to get out and walk around. They have dinosaur statues that are actual size. be ware there are a lot of steps so I do not advise going if walking on steps is hard for you. Great place to let the kids out to run! Also provides a beautiful view of the city.
